BREAKING: Two drivers have been arrested in separate incidents in the Griffith area this week, with both cases involving serious traffic violations and drug use. The first incident unfolded at approximately 12:34 PM on August 22, when a 48-year-old man was caught speeding at an alarming 120 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Rifle Range Road, driving a Toyota Hilux.

After stopping the vehicle, officers conducted roadside tests for alcohol and drugs, revealing a positive result for methamphetamine. The driver was arrested and subsequently issued a 24-hour prohibition from driving. Authorities confirmed that further action will be initiated once an oral fluid sample is analyzed by the New South Wales Forensic and Analytical Science Service. The man also received a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h.

In a separate incident just two days later, on August 24, a 34-year-old man was stopped while driving a white Holden Cruze on Kidman Way in Hanwood around 8:12 AM. Officers from Griffith Highway Patrol flagged him down due to an expired registration. Upon investigation, police discovered he had never held a driving license in Australia.

Drug testing also detected methamphetamine in his system. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including “never licensed person drive vehicle on road” and “drive vehicle with an illicit drug present in oral fluid.” Additionally, he faced charges related to breaching an AVO (Apprehended Violence Order) and violating bail conditions. He has been refused bail and is set to appear in Griffith Local Court on October 25.

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and drug use in the Griffith area. Both arrests serve as urgent reminders of the dangers posed by impaired driving and the need for strict adherence to traffic laws. As authorities continue to monitor the situation, residents are urged to stay informed and report any suspicious driving behavior.
