urgent-recall-multiple-alfalfa-sprouts-linked-to-salmonella-risk

BREAKING: A nationwide recall has been issued for various alfalfa sprouts due to potential salmonella contamination, affecting customers across Australia. Authorities are urging individuals to avoid consuming these products immediately and to return them for a full refund.

The recall involves a range of products, including Aussie Sprouts Alfalfa Sprouts and several varieties from Hugo’s, such as Onion & Garlic and Radish Sprouts. These items were sold at major retailers including Woolworths and Coles, as well as independent grocers like IGA and Harris Farm Markets. The impacted products have use-by dates extending up to and including November 20, 2025.

Health authorities, including Food Standards Australia New Zealand, have confirmed the recall, advising customers to check their pantries and discard any affected items. “Consumers should return the product(s) to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the agency stated.

Individuals who have already consumed the sprouts are advised to monitor for symptoms of salmonella, which can manifest as headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Symptoms typically appear between six to 72 hours after exposure and may last up to seven days. The ACT government reiterated the importance of seeking medical advice if symptoms arise.

This urgent recall underscores the need for vigilance among consumers. As alfalfa sprouts are popular in salads and health foods, the potential exposure poses a significant public health risk. The swift action by health officials aims to prevent further illnesses and ensure consumer safety.
