URGENT UPDATE: Residents of Melton are facing road disruptions as a critical intersection undergoes urgent improvement works. Starting Monday, September 22, and lasting until October 4, the western side of the Centenary Avenue and Coburns Road roundabout will be temporarily closed.
This closure is part of a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing safety and reducing congestion at this busy junction. According to the Melton City Council, the improvements include the construction of an additional lane, which is expected to alleviate traffic bottlenecks that have plagued the area due to the single lane entry from the west.
Mayor Steve Abboushi emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating,
“We have scheduled the works during the school holiday period when there is less traffic to minimize the disruption to residents.”
The council’s strategic timing aims to limit inconvenience for local drivers and families.
During the closure, motorists will encounter detours via Rosyln Park Drive and Westmelton Drive. Heavy vehicles can utilize High Street as an alternative route. The construction will take place daily from 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Additionally, the project will include the installation of a new footpath at the roundabout, enhancing pedestrian safety and access. This initiative is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to make Melton a safer and more navigable city.
Residents are urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during this period. The council appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as these essential improvements are made.
