BREAKING: The search for a missing light plane carrying a couple, identified as Gregory Vaughan, 72, and Kim Worner, 66, has intensified as authorities struggle against challenging weather conditions. The couple’s plane vanished on Saturday, July 15, 2023, shortly after takeoff from George Town airport in Tasmania at 12:45 PM.
This urgent search operation was launched after family members reported them missing around 5 PM on the same day when they failed to arrive at Hillston Airport in New South Wales. The aircraft, a distinctive green two-seater Bristell S-LSA, was also carrying their dog, Molly.
Tasmania Police have confirmed that no distress call was made from the plane during its flight across Bass Strait. Inspector Nick Clark stated, “The two people on the plane have not been in contact with anyone, or aviation authorities, since they left George Town.”
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is coordinating extensive search efforts, focusing on northern Tasmania, Bass Strait, and southern Victoria. Helicopter crews have conducted sweeps of Tasmania’s northern coastline between George Town and Turners Beach, but have yet to locate the aircraft.
