URGENT UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed two fatal car crashes in regional Victoria within just five hours, as the statewide road toll climbs to 214. Emergency services were called to the first incident on the Girgarre-Rushworth Road in Rushworth at approximately 7:30 PM on September 19. A motorcycle, with an unidentified male rider, veered off the road and struck a tree. Despite immediate CPR efforts from a passerby, the rider tragically died at the scene.

Just five hours later, police responded to another fatal crash on Donalds Road in Woodend around 12:30 AM. The driver, also yet to be formally identified, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which rolled over. Authorities confirmed that the driver died at the scene, with investigations into both incidents currently ongoing.

These devastating events highlight the increasing dangers on Victoria’s roads, with the current toll surpassing last year’s figure of 205 lives lost at the same time. This alarming trend raises urgent questions about road safety and enforcement measures across the region.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, witnesses, or footage related to either incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.

As the investigation continues, residents and travelers in the area are reminded to exercise caution and report any reckless driving behaviors. The rising road toll is a stark reminder of the importance of safety on our roads.
