UPDATE: An emergency warning has just been issued by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) as a grass fire rapidly spreads near Dubbo. Residents in the vicinity of Beni Road are urged to seek shelter immediately, with authorities confirming that it is now too late to leave the area.
The fire, burning approximately 14 kilometres north-east of Dubbo between Old Mendooran Road and Dunedoo Road, is currently out of control and moving in an easterly direction. The RFS reported the incident shortly after 12:30 PM on December 5, 2025, and firefighters are battling a blaze that has already consumed over 130 hectares.
More than 60 firefighters are on the scene, supported by aerial firefighting resources. “Crews will have a bit of work ahead of them,” an RFS spokesperson stated. “We are not yet contained. It is very much still going, and it’s quite a fast-moving grass fire.”
Residents in the impacted areas, particularly those between Old Mendooran Road and Dunedoo Road/the Golden Highway, must prioritize their safety. The RFS advises that the best course of action is to stay indoors and monitor updates through the Hazards Near Me app, which can provide real-time notifications.
Authorities emphasize the urgency of the situation, and residents are encouraged to check the RFS website and local media for further information. As the situation develops, the community is reminded to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to protect themselves and their property.
