UPDATE: The Werribee Bees kick-started their season with a thrilling win against the Keilor Bulls, clinching an 80-67 victory in the opening round of the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant, division 2, section 1 competition on Saturday at Chirnside Park. This victory marks a significant moment for the Bees, who faced the Bulls in a preliminary final last season, ending their championship dreams.
Despite notable offseason changes, including the departure of key players Mick O’Neill and Brendan Barker, Werribee showcased resilience and talent on the green. Although Robert Smith‘s rink fell 19-16 and Ian Milledge‘s rink lost 20-18, the overall team effort secured the win.
Joyce, who is also a director at the club, expressed confidence in the team’s potential. “Despite the changes, we are focused on remaining competitive and aim for promotion across all divisions this season,” he stated. The Bees are determined to cultivate their newer bowlers while leveraging the experience of established players for a successful 2025-26 season.
In addition to their weekend pennant team, Werribee is fielding five midweek teams and is actively seeking more players, whether for competition or social play. Interested individuals can reach out at 9741 3229 or visit their website at werribeebowlsclub.com for free coaching and equipment.
