URGENT UPDATE: A woman has been convicted of larceny after brazenly stealing a winning poker machine ticket worth $285 while the player briefly stepped away to buy a drink. 34-year-old Savannah Dorsett from Davidson Court, Orange, was found guilty in her absence during a court hearing at Bathurst Local Court on September 24, 2025.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 21 at a hotel in Bathurst. Court documents reveal that the victim had just won a feature on the poker machine when he left his seat to grab a drink from the bar. Seizing the opportunity, Dorsett approached the unattended machine and took the winning ticket before relocating to another machine.
Upon returning, the victim discovered his ticket was missing and immediately confronted Dorsett. In a shocking exchange, she responded with a dismissive, “Go f–k yourself.” The victim promptly alerted hotel staff and contacted the police. Authorities arrived shortly after to investigate the theft.
Magistrate Gemma Slack-Smith presided over the case and read the charges against Dorsett aloud in court. She confirmed that the evidence substantiated the claim, leading to Dorsett’s conviction and a fine of $450.
This incident illustrates the risky behavior some individuals exhibit in high-stakes environments like casinos. Such brazen acts not only undermine the integrity of gaming establishments but also highlight the need for vigilance among players.
As criminal convictions of this nature continue to emerge, it raises questions about security measures in gambling venues. What happens next for Dorsett remains to be seen, but this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of opportunistic theft.
