UPDATE: The Wyndham Vale Men’s Shed has just unveiled a vibrant new children’s kitchen area at the Iramoo Community Centre, surprising families and staff alike. This generous initiative comes after community members expressed concern over the dilapidated state of the previous kitchen setup.

Just announced, the installation features a bright, newly constructed kitchen designed to enhance playtime for children at the centre. Shed spokesperson Peter Gibbons revealed that the project was initiated in response to the community’s request for repairs. “The existing kiddie’s kitchen, which consisted of an old washbasin and a separate cooktop, was in a bad state of repair,” Gibbons explained.

The transformation began when Gibbons suggested a new design to fellow members, leading to a collaborative effort that showcased the skills of the shedders. Member John Cassar played a pivotal role by sourcing surplus wood from Bunnings, constructing the kitchen at home, and then transporting it to the shed for assembly and painting. “It was a good team effort,” Gibbons added.

The community was not only thrilled by the new installation but also by the surprise element. “The best part of it was the reaction from the Iramoo Community Centre staff when they discovered that we had installed it while they were away,” Gibbons noted. Since the unveiling, the kitchen has become a hub of creativity, with children engaged in imaginative play, cooking, and learning.

Those interested in supporting or joining the Wyndham Vale Men’s Shed can visit on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday between 9am and 3pm or call 8742 6448 for more information.

This heartwarming project not only enhances the community space but also fosters teamwork and gives children a safe area to explore their culinary creativity. The impact of such initiatives is profound, bringing joy to families and strengthening community ties. The shedders’ generosity serves as a reminder of the positive influence local groups can have in enriching community life.
