youth-myki-card-design-winner-announced-amid-exciting-changes

BREAKING: The winning design for the new Youth Myki cards has just been revealed, featuring the artwork of 11-year-old Charlie Bindokas. His vibrant design, which includes a V/Line train, a Metro train, tram, and bus, will be printed on over one million new cards set to hit the network in 2024.

The announcement was made earlier today by Premier Jacinta Allan and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams, who praised the creativity of the young artists across the state. The competition attracted more than 6,600 entries from aspiring young designers in Victoria, showcasing a remarkable level of talent.

Charlie’s design will not only travel in the pockets of a million young Victorians, but he will also receive a $1,000 gift card as a reward for his efforts. Minister Williams described him as “our very own ‘Myki-angelo’,” highlighting the significance of his achievement.

“While there can only be one winner, the creativity on show from across the state was amazing to see, and everyone who took part in the competition should be very proud of their achievements,” Ms. Williams stated.

This initiative is part of the broader changes announced in this year’s state budget, which will also allow children under 18 years old to travel for free starting next year. Currently, a yearly student pass costs $755, but the new Youth Myki cards will be available for just $5, making public transport more accessible for families across the region.

The Youth Myki initiative is expected to significantly impact young commuters, encouraging more students to use public transport. As these cards roll out in 2024, expect to see a surge in usage among youth, making daily travel more affordable and convenient.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development and what it means for young Victorians!
