Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he recently underwent treatment for skin cancer, specifically a non-melanoma type known as basal cell carcinoma. In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, the 58-year-old expressed gratitude towards the medical professionals at The Skin Associates who facilitated his treatment, emphasizing the importance of timely medical intervention.

Ramsay’s post read, “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma, thank you.” He also took the opportunity to remind his followers about the necessity of sun protection, adding, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend, I promise you it’s not a face lift. I’d need a refund.”

Raising Awareness About Skin Cancer

The chef’s candid discussion regarding his health has resonated with many, as he received support from friends and fans alike. Notable personalities, such as TV judge Robert Rinder, expressed their well-wishes through social media. The charity Cancer Research UK also responded positively, stating, “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun.” They encouraged the public to “seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

According to the NHS, basal cell carcinoma primarily occurs in the upper layers of the skin and is predominantly caused by exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun or tanning beds. Symptoms typically manifest as unusual growths or patches on the skin, which can vary significantly in size and appearance. This form of skin cancer is most commonly found in areas such as the head, neck, shoulders, back, hands, and lower legs.
