At least 16 individuals have been killed in the Gaza Strip and West Bank due to ongoing violence, according to health officials in the region. The latest casualties include a family of four in the West Bank and three members of another family in Gaza. The situation remains tense as the region experiences heightened conflict following a ceasefire that came into effect in October 2023 after two years of war initiated by Hamas-led attacks on Israel.

In the Gaza Strip, the Gazan health ministry reported that an Israeli air strike on Sunday killed three people, identified as a man, his pregnant wife, and their son, in the Nuseirat area. Additionally, at least 14 other individuals, primarily bystanders, sustained injuries during this incident.

In the West Bank, a tragic event unfolded in the village of Tammun, where a family was targeted while driving. Reports indicate that Ali Khaled Bani Odeh, his wife Waad, and their two young sons, aged five and seven, were shot in the head. The Israeli military stated that their forces were conducting operations to apprehend individuals allegedly involved in “terrorist” activities. They claimed that the vehicle containing the family accelerated towards them, prompting a response of gunfire.

Khaled, one of the surviving children at 12 years old, recounted the harrowing experience, saying, “We came under direct fire, we didn’t know the source. Everyone in the car was martyred, except my brother Mustafa and me.” He further mentioned that soldiers had pulled him from the vehicle and subjected him to physical abuse.

The Israeli military has indicated that the circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.

Over the past few weeks, violence has surged in the region, with the Gazan health ministry reporting that at least 670 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire. In the same timeframe, Israeli sources noted that four soldiers were killed by militants from the Gaza Strip. Since the onset of conflict related to the war on Iran, initiated on February 28, 2024, Israeli fire has resulted in the deaths of at least 36 Palestinians.

In addition to the violence perpetrated by military forces, rights groups have raised concerns regarding attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Reports indicate that settlers have taken advantage of restrictions on movement imposed during the ongoing conflict, leading to attacks on Palestinians. The Palestinian health ministry has confirmed that settlers have killed at least five Palestinians since the beginning of the Iran war.

As the situation escalates, the human toll continues to mount, with families devastated by loss and communities left to grapple with the consequences of ongoing violence. The international community watches with concern as discussions around peace and security in the region become increasingly urgent.
