A renewed onslaught of missile and drone strikes by Russia has resulted in the deaths of at least 18 individuals in Kyiv, including four children. Rescuers worked through the wreckage of a building on Kyiv’s left bank, recovering at least two bodies from the debris.
The attacks not only took civilian lives but also damaged the offices of the European Union mission and the British Council in the city. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties at these sites. President Zelenskiy criticized the Kremlin’s actions, stating, “Russia chooses ballistics instead of the negotiating table,” and called for new sanctions against the country.
In response to the strikes, the Kremlin claimed its military operations targeted military industrial facilities and air bases, asserting that Ukraine had also engaged in attacks on Russian targets. Despite this, Ukrainian officials contend that Russian strikes on densely populated areas have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, estimating that thousands have died since the onset of the war in February 2022.

Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted 563 of nearly 600 drones and 26 of 31 missiles launched by Russia throughout the country. One of the attacks significantly damaged a railway hub in the Vinnytsia region, leaving approximately 60,000 residents without power. As winter approaches, officials have warned that Russia may intensify strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
In a separate engagement, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 102 Ukrainian drones overnight across at least seven regions. Ukrainian forces reported successful strikes on Russian oil refineries during their retaliatory actions. Additionally, a Ukrainian reconnaissance boat was reportedly attacked and sunk in the Danube River, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.
