Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it has thwarted a purported plot involving Ukraine and the United Kingdom to hijack a MiG-31 jet. The FSB described the operation as a large-scale “provocation” that allegedly aimed to exploit the aircraft for military purposes.
According to the FSB, Ukrainian military intelligence attempted to recruit Russian pilots with offers reaching up to $3 million to facilitate the theft of the fighter jet. The agency reported that measures taken by Russian authorities successfully disrupted the plans orchestrated by Ukrainian and British intelligence services.
State media broadcast messages and recordings allegedly linked to a man working for these intelligence services. This individual purportedly offered significant financial incentives to a Russian pilot, including citizenship, in exchange for flying the MiG-31 to Europe. However, as of now, independent verification of these claims remains unconfirmed by sources such as Reuters.
