Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has criticized the international community for its silence regarding ongoing Russian military attacks. His remarks come following a substantial assault on Ukraine, which included the launch of 53 missiles and multiple waves of drones. This latest wave of violence resulted in five fatalities and injuries to 18 others across the nation.
The attacks on March 10, 2024, particularly targeted the city of Lviv, where four individuals, including a 15-year-old, were killed in a combined missile and drone strike. This incident marks the most extensive aerial assault on the region since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. According to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the local military administration, the scale of the attack was unprecedented, with approximately 140 Shahed drones and 23 ballistic missiles launched against the area.
Zelenskiy emphasized that Russia has consistently rejected all proposals aimed at ending hostilities or at least pausing the attacks. He stated, “This is exactly why Vladimir Putin does it: he simply laughs at the West, at its silence and the absence of decisive countermeasures.” The president condemned the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure, particularly gas and power facilities, as winter approaches.
In the wake of the strikes, two districts in Lviv experienced power outages, disrupting public transportation for several hours. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported a fire at a business complex on the city’s outskirts, describing it as a civilian facility unrelated to the war effort. The assault has raised concerns about the humanitarian impact of continued Russian aggression.
Zelenskiy also pointed out that the drones used in the attacks contained components sourced from Western countries and nations bordering Russia. He expressed disbelief that, after more than three and a half years of conflict, it remains unclear how to stop the influx of these critical parts. “The nearly 500 drones that the Russians used overnight contain more than 100,000 components manufactured abroad,” he highlighted.
