Baylor College of Medicine and Hess Toy Truck have unveiled the latest edition of their collaborative STEM guide, titled Ready, Set, STEM!, aimed at students from kindergarten through eighth grade. This marks the tenth consecutive year of partnership between the two organizations, focusing on hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities that engage young learners across the nation.

The new guide introduces students to the thrilling world of racing through the lens of the 2025 Hess Stock Car Racers. Developed by the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology’s Center for Educational Outreach at Baylor, the guide features eight interactive activities designed to teach essential STEM concepts. Students will explore principles such as potential and kinetic energy, aerodynamics, gravity, and force while building models and designing ramps.

According to Justin Mayer, general manager of Hess Toy Truck, “For a decade, our collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine has helped students nationwide experience the excitement of STEM in a way that is both memorable and fun.” He emphasized the value of the Hess Toy Truck in fostering curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills among young learners, aiming to inspire the innovators of tomorrow.

Over the past ten years, this partnership has produced more than 70 lessons, allowing students to engage with various themes related to engineering and science. Previous guides have featured topics ranging from rescue vehicles to police cars, recreational vehicles, and aircraft, demonstrating the versatility and broad appeal of the STEM curriculum.

Creating Lasting Impact in Education

The significance of this initiative extends beyond mere educational content. It aims to make complex scientific principles accessible and enjoyable for students, thereby fostering a long-term interest in these fields. Dr. Nancy Moreno, chair of the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology and director of the Center for Educational Outreach at Baylor, stated, “Our collaboration with Hess Toy Truck brings the wonders of engineering, physical science, and technology to life for students.”

The free STEM guide is available for families and educators through the BioEd online site, providing valuable resources to enhance learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. This initiative not only supports academic growth but also encourages young learners to think critically and innovatively, skills that are increasingly important in today’s fast-paced world.

The ongoing collaboration between Baylor College of Medicine and Hess Toy Truck exemplifies a commitment to educational excellence and the promotion of STEM fields among the next generation. By combining engaging activities with real-world applications, the partners continue to create a meaningful impact in the educational landscape.
