Yama, an Asian fusion restaurant located in SouthPark at 720 Governor Morrison St. #E130, has announced a temporary closure as it embarks on an extensive renovation project. Owner Birdie Yang revealed that the restaurant aims to reopen in May 2024, marking a significant transformation after nearly two decades of service at this location.
According to a statement on the restaurant’s website, Yama will focus on “renovating, refreshing, and re-imagining everything” to enhance the dining experience for its loyal customers. Yang expressed a clear intent to modernize the space, promising a brighter and more inspired atmosphere upon reopening.
Vision for the Future
Renderings shared on Yama’s Instagram page showcase a design featuring wood accents and neutral tones, coupled with an upgraded bar area. “We can’t wait to welcome you back this May — brighter, better and more inspired than ever,” the announcement emphasized. This revitalization is part of Yang’s broader strategy to solidify Yama’s position within the community.
Yama is not the only establishment under Yang’s ownership. The brand also encompasses Yama Loso and Yama Waverly, both of which contribute to the diverse offerings in the area. Additionally, Yang owns another restaurant, Baku, which is set to close in April along Sharon Road. Another venue, Sora, is part of Yang’s culinary portfolio, indicating a strong presence in the local dining scene.
Exploring New Concepts
Looking ahead, Yang is exploring opportunities to expand into new culinary concepts. “Yama is established enough where we might have another location, and that’s it,” she stated, hinting at potential growth beyond the existing venues. Yang’s openness to diversifying the restaurant’s offerings suggests a dynamic approach to the evolving tastes of diners in the region.
As Yama prepares for its renovation, the community can look forward to a refreshed dining experience that aims to blend traditional elements with modern flair. The anticipated reopening in May 2024 signals a new chapter for this beloved restaurant, reinforcing its commitment to quality and innovation in Asian fusion cuisine.
