A popular bagel shop from Washington, D.C., is making its way to Philadelphia. Call Your Mother, known for its unique blend of bagels and Jewish deli fare, plans to open its first location in the Fishtown neighborhood this spring or summer, pending local permits. Owners Daniela Moreira and Andrew Dana announced the exciting development in a social media video, highlighting the personal connection Dana has to the city.

Dana, whose mother is originally from Mount Airy in Northwest Philadelphia, expressed his enthusiasm for the opening. “We’re going to open in the city of Brotherly Love! Where my mom is from. Coming to Philadelphia,” he said, celebrating the full-circle moment. The post also included a shoutout to basketball legend Allen Iverson, adding a local flair to their announcement.

Since its inception at farmers markets in Washington, D.C., Call Your Mother has expanded significantly. After launching its flagship store in Park View in fall 2018, the brand now boasts over 20 locations across D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Colorado, with plans to expand to Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Innovative Menu Blends Tradition with Modern Flavors

The menu at Call Your Mother showcases a delightful fusion of traditional Jewish deli offerings and contemporary culinary twists. Dana, who identifies as Jewish, infuses classic flavors with nostalgia, while Moreira, who hails from Argentina and has trained at some of the finest restaurants in the United States, elevates these familiar tastes.

The establishment prides itself on its bagels, described as a unique hybrid between classic New York-style and sweeter Montreal-style bagels. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’re serious about bagels,” the website states, emphasizing their commitment to quality.

Some standout menu items include the best-selling “Sun City,” featuring bacon, pastrami, and a bodega-style egg on an everything bagel, topped with spicy honey. Another popular choice is the “Jetski,” a brisket and pastrami cheesesteak nestled in a cheddar bagel. For seafood lovers, the “Royal Palm” combines smoked salmon with cream cheese and fresh vegetables on an everything bagel.

In addition to bagels, the shop will offer delectable treats such as cinnamon babka muffins, potato latkes, and black-and-white cookies. Coffee enthusiasts can enjoy Jojo’s medium roast, specifically crafted for drip brewing using washed beans sourced from Chiapas, Mexico.

Commitment to Quality Ingredients

Everything at Call Your Mother is prepared in-house, with a focus on high-quality ingredients sourced from reputable partners. Collaborations with local vendors include Z&Z, Logan’s Sausage, and Liberty Delights, ensuring that every item on the menu meets the shop’s standards for freshness and flavor.

As the grand opening approaches, fans of the brand are encouraged to stay updated through the Call Your Mother website and their social media platforms on Instagram and Facebook. With its unique offerings and a personal touch, the new location in Philadelphia is set to become a beloved addition to the local food scene.
