The Brew Hut, a cornerstone of the homebrewing community in Aurora, Colorado, has announced that it will permanently close its doors by the end of February 2024. The store, located at 15120 East Hampden Avenue, has been instrumental in shaping the local brewing culture since its inception in 1995.
Founded as a small homebrew supply shop, The Brew Hut has evolved into a significant player in the industry, particularly after being taken over by Kevin DeLange, co-founder of Dry Dock Brewing, in 2002. DeLange later established the brewery adjacent to the store, further solidifying the connection between the two businesses. The announcement of the closure was made via a social media post on January 15, 2024, eliciting an emotional response from the community.
In the post, The Brew Hut expressed its sorrow, stating, “After more than 30 years of serving the homebrewing community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce The Brew Hut will be closing its doors at the end of February.” The message highlighted the store’s journey from its humble beginnings to its pivotal role in fostering a vibrant brewing community. The Brew Hut and Dry Dock Brewing have collectively influenced numerous homebrewers and aspiring breweries throughout the region.
As the store prepares for its closure, it has begun the process of liquidating its inventory. Starting from January 16, 2024, customers have been invited to purchase remaining supplies and equipment at discounted rates, with some items marked down by up to 50%. The store encouraged patrons to take advantage of these offers before the final shutdown, emphasizing its gratitude for the community’s support over the years.
In its farewell message, The Brew Hut thanked everyone who has been part of its journey, stating, “We are incredibly grateful for all the people who have personally and professionally touched our lives and look forward to our next beer together.”
The announcement has resonated deeply with loyal customers and local brewers. One customer, Jason Wigmore, shared his sentiments, recalling, “Bought my first setup and recipe there years ago!!! I lived in Meadowwood for long enough to become a Dry Dock regular. Cheers to new endeavors.”
As The Brew Hut approaches its final days, reflections on its legacy continue to emerge, capturing the significant impact it has had on Aurora’s homebrewing landscape.
