Lenovo has unveiled its 2026 portfolio of Chromebooks tailored for educational environments, focusing on durability and enhanced manageability. The new devices, particularly the refreshed Lenovo Chromebook 100e Gen 5 and Chromebook 500e 2-in-1 Gen 5, aim to address common challenges faced by school IT departments, such as device repairability and fleet management.

Durable Design Meets Efficient Performance

The Chromebook 100e Gen 5 and Chromebook 500e 2-in-1 Gen 5 are designed to withstand the rigors of daily classroom use. Both models are equipped with the new MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, providing improved efficiency that supports all-day battery life. An option for Intel N-series chips is also available, catering to varying performance needs.

A key feature of these models is their enhanced chassis, which incorporates what Lenovo refers to as “Customer Replaceable Unit” (CRU) components. This innovation allows school technical teams to replace parts on-site without voiding warranties or needing to send devices away for extended periods. The laptops also adhere to MIL-SPEC durability standards, ensuring they can endure the inevitable drops and spills that occur in a K-12 environment.

Enhanced Options for Educators

Lenovo has introduced the “Plus” branding for educators with two new models tailored to meet diverse teaching needs. The Lenovo Chromebook Plus i 14 features an Intel Core i3 Processor N355, a 16:10 display with an over 87% screen-to-body ratio, and a 5MP webcam complete with a physical privacy shutter. This model also includes CRU components, making it a practical choice for both teachers and IT departments focusing on sustainability.

For those requiring even more screen space, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus i 15 offers a larger 15-inch 2K IPS display and a full numeric keypad, ideal for administrators or teachers who frequently work with spreadsheets. This model maintains impressive battery life, lasting up to 11 hours, which allows it to endure a full day of lectures and meetings without needing a recharge.

Streamlined Fleet Management

In a move to further assist IT administrators, Lenovo has integrated ChromeOS support into its Lenovo Device Orchestration (LDO) platform. This enables educational institutions to manage their entire fleet of devices—be it ChromeOS, Windows, or Android—through a single interface. Administrators can monitor battery health, usage data, and security status for each Chromebook, eliminating the need to navigate multiple dashboards.

The new Lenovo Chromebooks are set to be available in the first half of 2026, giving schools ample time to evaluate their options ahead of the upcoming purchasing season.
