The Karolinska Institutet has opened applications for a PhD position within the ACHILLES Doctoral Network, part of a larger initiative aimed at advancing research in hematologic malignancies. This opportunity allows candidates to join a dynamic, international team focused on improving survival rates for leukemia and lymphoma patients.
About the ACHILLES Program
The ACHILLES program, officially known as “Advancing in the Challenge of Improving Lymphoma and Leukemia Survival,” is a Marie Skłodowska Curie Action (MSCA) Doctoral Network funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program. The initiative aims to train 16 doctoral candidates who will contribute to significant advancements in the understanding and treatment of hematologic cancers.
PhD students in this network will engage in research that focuses on three primary objectives: developing advanced experimental models, gaining new insights into the mechanisms underlying leukemia and lymphoma biology, and creating as well as validating new therapeutic approaches.
Research Focus and Opportunities
As a PhD candidate at Karolinska Institutet, the selected individual will conduct a research project investigating the genetic and epigenetic drivers of Myelofibrosis (MF) progression to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Utilizing cutting-edge techniques such as advanced sequencing and CRISPR technologies, the goal is to develop targeted therapies aimed at blocking disease progression.
In addition to their primary research, candidates will have the opportunity to broaden their expertise through internships at other partner organizations within the ACHILLES network. This collaborative approach is designed to foster a comprehensive understanding of the fields of immunotherapy, functional genomics, and chromatin regulation.
By joining this network, PhD students will collaborate with leading experts across Europe, enhancing their research skills and contributing to groundbreaking discoveries in hematologic malignancies.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply soon, as this opportunity represents a significant step for those aiming to make impactful contributions in cancer research. The ACHILLES network emphasizes the importance of innovative approaches in tackling the challenges posed by leukemia and lymphoma, ultimately aiming to improve patient outcomes across Europe.
