The highly anticipated 2026 Toyota HiLux officially launched on December 9, 2025, featuring an updated design, new technology, and a revised engine lineup. Deliveries have commenced, providing customers with comprehensive details on fuel consumption, towing capacity, and payload figures that were previously unavailable.

The new HiLux retains its previous ladder-frame chassis, rather than adopting the newer TNGA-F platform featured in models like the LandCruiser Prado. The vehicle maintains similar dimensions to its predecessor, but the exterior has received a fresh look designed by Toyota Design Australia. Enhancements include thinner LED headlights, a redesigned grille, and new tail-lights, alongside a variety of fresh paint colors and wheel patterns.

Inside, the cabin has been completely overhauled, boasting new technology and redesigned seating. The standard engine has transitioned to a 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder, which replaces the previous 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines, justifying a higher entry price. A manual transmission is still available in certain model grades, ensuring the HiLux remains one of the few utes in Australia with this option.

The base WorkMate model has been upgraded with additional safety features, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as LED headlights. All models now come equipped with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports satellite navigation and wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Pricing and Model Variants

Toyota Australia has announced pricing exclusively for the diesel variants of the HiLux, spanning five model grades in both cab/chassis and dual-cab ute configurations. The lineup begins with the WorkMate, priced at $33,990 before on-road costs, marking an increase from the previous model’s starting price of $27,730. The earlier 2.4-litre diesel version began at $32,790 before on-road costs.

At the upper end, both the Rogue dual-cab and Rugged X models are priced at $71,990 before on-road costs, reflecting a minimal increase of $460 for the Rogue compared to its predecessor. While a GR Sport variant aimed at competing with the Ford Ranger Raptor has not been officially announced, its introduction seems likely given recent developments within Toyota’s brand lineup.

Performance and Specifications

All 2026 HiLux models feature the carryover 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, delivering 150 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque for automatic variants, while manual versions produce 420 Nm. Buyers can choose between 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The manual transmission is available in WorkMate, SR, and SR5 models, while the automatic versions from the SR grade and higher come with standard 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.

The HiLux’s weight varies across the range, with the double-cab Rogue weighing 2342 kg and the Rugged X at 2327 kg. The vehicle rides on a 3085 mm wheelbase, maintaining stability across various terrains.

Toyota offers a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty covering all Toyota-produced parts, panels, and accessories. Engine and driveline warranties can be extended for an additional two years with scheduled servicing. Previous maintenance pricing was capped between $245 and $290 for the first six visits, requiring service every six months or 10,000 km, which is shorter than the typical 12 months or 15,000 km intervals offered by competitors.

Safety ratings for the HiLux are robust, with a five-star rating from ANCAP based on tests performed in 2025, although the Rugged X variant remains unrated. The model achieved an adult occupant protection rating of 84 percent and a child occupant protection rating of 89 percent.

Standard safety features in the WorkMate include essential systems, while SR models and above add further enhancements.

The 2026 Toyota HiLux is available in Glacier White as the standard color, with optional premium colors like Stunning Silver and Eclipse Black, which incur an additional charge. The SR5 and higher models offer even more color choices, including Frosted White and Feverish Red.

As the HiLux continues to evolve, it aims to meet the demands of both new and returning customers while expanding its footprint in the competitive ute market.
