Oracle has announced the launch of the “largest AI supercomputer in the world,” named Zettascale10. This ambitious project arrives shortly after Microsoft introduced its “most powerful data center.” The Zettascale10 supercomputer will serve as a cornerstone for the Stargate supercluster, which Oracle is developing in collaboration with OpenAI in Abilene, Texas.

Delivering up to 16 zettaFLOPS of peak performance, Zettascale10 is not a conventional supercomputer. Instead, it will integrate hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs across multiple data centers while functioning as a single entity. This design aims to provide significant computational power for AI initiatives.

Technical Innovations and Performance Enhancements

Oracle has utilized its Acceleron RoCE networking architecture along with NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure to ensure “extremely low” GPU-to-GPU latency. The Zettascale10 clusters will be located within large gigawatt data center campuses strategically positioned within a 2 km radius to further minimize latency.

“Customers can build, train, and deploy their largest AI models into production using less power per unit of performance while achieving high reliability,” explained Mahesh Thiagarajan, Executive Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The introduction of Zettascale10 follows Oracle’s earlier launch of its first Zettascale cloud computing cluster in Cloud World 2024, which featured capabilities of up to 131,072 NVIDIA GPUs. With this new supercomputer, Oracle significantly increases that capacity to a staggering 800,000 NVIDIA GPUs.

Future Plans and Investments

Oracle has announced that Zettascale10 is expected to be available in the second half of 2026. This development is part of a broader commitment to expand Oracle’s capabilities in AI and cloud computing. The company has invested over $300 billion to enhance its Stargate capacity, with additional sites planned in Texas, New Mexico, and the Midwest.

“To meet this enormous demand, we continue to expand OCI’s footprint at an unrivaled pace to deliver the most performant and cost-effective AI training and inferencing,” stated Clay Magouyrk, Oracle’s co-CEO.

With Zettascale10, Oracle aims to solidify its position at the forefront of AI technology, offering businesses the tools they need to harness the power of artificial intelligence effectively. As Oracle embarks on this groundbreaking journey, the implications for industries relying on AI will likely be profound, shaping the future of technology in significant ways.
