UPDATE: The Kincumber skatepark is poised for a significant transformation, with plans to expand its size from 200 sqm to 750 sqm, catering to riders of all ages and abilities. This urgent upgrade is not just about enhancing the skatepark; it aims to establish a vibrant community hub, emphasizing social interaction and accessibility for all.
The new facility will replace the outdated skatepark with a modern, street-style layout designed for beginner and intermediate riders while still providing challenges for advanced users. Key features will include shaded seating, spectator areas, and improved integration with nearby sports fields and amenities.
Central Coast Councillor Jared Wright expressed the importance of the skatepark as a beloved institution in Kincumber, stating, “Having grown up in Kincumber, I have fond memories of riding my bike, skateboard and scooter down at the Frost Reserve skatepark.” He highlighted that the expansion will allow more people to enjoy the space simultaneously, creating a vibrant environment for social gatherings.
Community input has been crucial to the development of this new design, with feedback from an online survey and community forum directly influencing the final plans. The design will now include a mini ramp on the southern side of the skatepark, along with a repositioned bank area to enhance flow and safety for users. “This project is a fantastic example of Central Coast Council listening to the community,” Wright said.
The upgraded skatepark will feature a linear layout approximately 12m x 45m, promoting safe and fluid movement across various skate features. The design also pays homage to Kincumber’s history, incorporating elements from local skate spots and urban plazas. Surrounding landscapes will be enhanced with new footpaths and green spaces, ensuring comfort and accessibility.
Wright emphasized the project’s significance for local youth, stating, “Creating more opportunities for young people in the community is so important.” He added that the upgraded space will be a place for everyone, whether for riding, picnicking, or enjoying coffee with friends.
Construction is slated to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, marking a pivotal moment for Kincumber’s skateboarding community. With this ambitious upgrade, the Central Coast Council aims to foster not only a new recreational facility but also a gathering place that celebrates the unique character of Kincumber.
