UPDATE: A homeless man, Ross Judd, has been charged with the shocking double murder of a pregnant woman and her partner in Mount Waverley, Melbourne. The victims, Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and a 50-year-old man, were discovered inside their home on Monday night, prompting urgent police action.
During a court appearance on Wednesday, Judd, 34, appeared calm and focused, donning a black T-shirt and sporting a mohawk hairstyle. He is accused of committing this heinous act, with police confirming details of a complex crime scene requiring extensive DNA analysis.
The police prosecutor revealed that investigators are seeking a 10-week extension to complete their case brief, citing the need for two autopsies, including one for the unborn child. “One of the people was pregnant and that has resulted in the delay,” the prosecutor stated, underscoring the urgency and sensitivity of the investigation.
Judd’s defense attorney, Annie Allan, noted this is Judd’s first time in custody, requesting that he receive medical attention for ongoing medication. He remained stoic during the hearing, responding affirmatively when the magistrate outlined his next court date.
The tragic incident unfolded after neighbors reported distressing noises from the residence at approximately 9:20 PM. A follow-up call to the police at 9:50 PM indicated that the situation had escalated. Officers arrived to find two bodies, leading to Judd’s arrest at Westall Railway Station, roughly 6 kilometers from the crime scene.
In a heart-wrenching tribute on Facebook, Georgopoulos’s mother expressed her devastation, revealing her daughter was due to give birth in just four months. “These last days you were so happy, we dreamt together about our granddaughter,” she lamented, capturing the profound loss felt by the family.
Judd is scheduled to appear in court via video link on January 13, 2026, as authorities continue to investigate the tragic circumstances surrounding this case.
