URGENT UPDATE: Major construction work on the Tamworth Skywalk is set to disrupt access to the scenic lookout for the next three weeks. Starting from 10 PM Sunday, March 8, both pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be restricted, limiting access to popular walking trails and the lookout.

The latest update from FORGE Constructions reveals significant progress on the 1,470-metre Skywalk, which includes elevated boardwalks and a community lookout rising more than 120 metres above the city. This construction is part of a larger project scheduled for completion in mid-2026.

The road closures will occur during specific times: from 10 PM Sunday, March 8 to 6 PM Friday, March 13, 10 PM Sunday, March 15 to 6 PM Friday, March 20, and 10 PM Sunday, March 22 to 6 PM Friday, March 27. During these periods, Scenic Road, Oxley Scenic Lookout, and all walking trails will be closed to ensure a safe environment for both the community and construction staff.

Officials urge residents to remove all vehicles and belongings before 10 PM on Sundays, as access will not be permitted until reopening on Friday evenings. Additionally, residents along White Street and Scenic Road should prepare for increased heavy vehicle traffic between 4:30 AM and 7:00 AM.

According to FORGE, the Skywalk project is progressing rapidly, with preparation underway for a complex bridge lift that will install a 20-metre pedestrian road bridge across Scenic Drive this March. This new structure aims to enhance connectivity and safety for visitors.

The council emphasizes the importance of these closures for the successful delivery of the Skywalk project and appreciates the community’s understanding during this time. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly to avoid disruptions.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Tamworth Skywalk continues to take shape, promising to elevate both the landscape and the community experience in the coming years.
